Cooperating
weather, a brand new exhibit and freshly tapped maple syrup
brought a record crowd of 4,900 visitors to the Stamford Museum
and Nature Center
for Maple Syrup Sunday.
For
the first time student volunteers from our school provided
a pancake breakfast for 2,000 diners who paid $5.00 each for
all the pancakes they could eat with sausages, butter and maple
syrup. Thirty pounds of dried pancake mix were used to make
both plain and chocolate chip pancakes!
Skills
USA students, culinary students and even students from other
shops participated in making and serving breakfast while also
marketing our school’s unique programs.
Food
service started at 11:00 a.m., and did not end until 3:15.
The breakfast took place in the historic Bendel Mansion
on the hilltop of the nature center. The kitchen was very small
and power was lost a number of times due to the fact that all
outlets in the building were being used! It was a unique professional
experience for our students. They were required to think on
their feet and solve problems on the fly. Chef Hines and Chef
Domanick were very proud. |
