Mary
Judge, RN, MBA, from Stamford Hospital delivered a powerful
anti-smoking message to the Health Tech students.
She presented strong graphics and serious facts in order to educate students on the real and life-long dangers of tobacco addiction. The students learned there are 21 toxic chemicals in cigarette smoke including Arsenic (a poison), Methane (sewer gas), Formaldehyde (preservative of dead people and animals), and DDT, the banned insecticide!
She also mentioned these poisons that exist in smoke affect people and children who are around it, not just those who directly smoke cigarettes. Ms. Judge reminded the group that soon there will be legislation banning the smoking of cigarettes on the street!
Lastl but not least, the students were taught the specific diseases that are directly related to cigarette smoking such as emphysema, bladder cancer, chronic pulmonary obstruction disease and cardiovascular disease.
Ms.
Judge’s talk was powerful, convincing and will be remembered
by the students.
