The WTSA football team opened the season with
a strong 24-12 win but injuries and attrition took it toll as the
young team finished 2-8 on the year. Stamford Academy senior linebacker
Frank Wright #24 had an outstanding year leading the defense
with 109 tackles and much of the state of Connecticut throughout
the year. Franks was selected to the Constitution State Conference
1st team defense.
Senior running back Juan Peralta #33 rushed
for 404 yds @ 4.99 ypg, 114 yds receiving @ 11.4 ypg and throwing
a TD pass in the last game, Juan also had 43 tackles and 3 interceptions
and 3 fumble recoveries at safety. Senior quarterback/receiver
Gaquawn Henderson #18 rushed for 307 yds @ 4.58 ypg. Junior quarterback
Kareem Cope #22 rushed for 489 yds @ 6.27 ypg, caught 5 passes
for 108 yds and threw for 26/64 for 248 yds and 5 TD passes-a
bright spot for next year's team.
Senior linebacker Elijah Washington #50
finished with 42 tackles and senior safety Ryan Walker #25 finished
with 49 tackles and 2 interceptions. Junior defensive lineman Dondre
Evans #66 finished with 39 tackles despite missing 4 games and
sophomore defensive lineman Kenny Mixon #70 finished with 26 tackles.
Freshman to watch next year are running
backs Dondre Joyner #45 and Sonny Beason #46, receivers Eric
Jackson #19 and Courtney Kerr #26, linebacker Kevin Thomas #76,
Offensive tackles Tyrell Sanchez #60 and Anthony Dispirito
