A
very young team, 6 sophomores-1 junior and 1 freshman finished
up the 2007-2008 season with a 9-11 record, improving
on last years win total by 8. The girls came down the home
stretch playing .500 ball in their last six games and just
missed the state tournament qualification.
The
Team won the Cheney Tech Holiday Tournament held at Cheney
Tech in Manchester and featured Goodwin Tech, Vinal Tech and
Cheney Tech along with Wright Tech. Sophomore Travae
Barrett was selected to the All Tournament Team and sophomore,
Sha’la Hall, was voted MVP of the tournament. Travae
had 22 rebounds and 13 points and Sha’la had 28 points,
7 assists and 5 steals in tournament play.
Sophomore
guard Sha'la Hall was selected as the Toyota Female Athlete of
the Week in late January and was selected to the Constitution
State Conference All West Team for the 2007-2008 season. Sha'la
playing the point guard position, led the team shooting 42% for
13.2 PPG. Sha'la also averaged 6.2 RPG and 3.2 SPG. Travae Barrett
a power forward, led the team with 8.8 RPG and also had 2.4 SPG.
Shadae Taylor also a power forward balance the team with 5.8
RPG and 2.5 SPG.
Coach
Jones reflected on this year's team stating "We are very proud
of these young ladies. They work as hard as any team I have ever
coached. They came to practice everyday with the work ethic of
champions. Their attitude was to improve some part of their game
and get better everday. They are great people and it was truely
a pleasure to coach them." |
