Twelve
outstanding sophomores and juniors at Wright Tech were recently
chosen to participate in a the new Student Recruitment/Mentor
program. This
pilot program entitled “You Make the Difference,” was
developed to assist with the recruitment of 9th graders for the
upcoming school year.
Wright
Tech held its first Student Recruitment Mentoring/Shadow Day on
Thursday, February 28, 2008. Six enthusiastic 8th graders
from the Charter School Side by Side of Norwalk attended Wright
Tech for a day of shadowing. The visiting students were welcomed
by four highly trained student leaders who were well versed in
the mission of Wright Tech. The student visitors were brought
to the Chef’s Galley for a delicious continental breakfast
baked by our Culinary Arts students.
After a “getting
to know you” icebreaker, the students toured the shops and
were given a broad overview of each technical offering, observed
hands on demonstrations and participated in questions and answers
sessions with the mentors as well as instructors. They also
visited the academic area including a Science Lab where they watched
a Science experiment.
Following the
tour, the 8th graders were treated to a tasty lunch prepared by
the Culinary Arts program. The day was capped off
by giving the 8th graders “Wright Tech themed” goodie
bags and was such a huge success that they are looking forward
to continuing and enhancing their experience here at Wright Tech.
