June 14, 2016

Dr. Nivea Torres, Superintendent of the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTHSS), announced and recognized Aimee Correa, Hairdressing Instructor at Eli Whitney Technical High School in Hamden, Conn., as the District Teacher of the Year.

Aimee Correa, a graduate of CTHSS’s Wilcox Technical High School, has been teaching at Eli Whitney for five years. This is her first Teacher of the Year Award, for which she will be representing CTHSS in the State Department of Education’s 2017 Connecticut Teacher of the Year Program.

Superintendent Dr. Torres surprised Correa with the honor on Monday, June 13, in front of the school’s graduating seniors. In her remarks, Dr. Torres said, “Ms. Correa certainly epitomizes the qualities that we look for in a technical high school teacher.”

After accepting the award, Correa addressed students and colleagues in the room, saying, “I wouldn’t be standing right here if it wasn’t for every single student, every single staff member and administrator. Thank you so much for your encouragement and support. I am truly, truly honored.”
