Emmett O’Brien Technical High School Senior Sean Coyle Appointed to the U.S. Military Academy

April 19, 2016

Emmett O’Brien Technical High School senior and Ansonia resident Sean D. Coyle has been appointed to the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York. Coyle received a congratulatory letter from the Office of the Superintendent of the Academy welcoming him as a member of West Point’s Class of 2020. He will enter the academy on Reception Day, which is slated for June 27, 2016.

Coyle earned his appointment to the academy by demonstrating exceptional potential for future service to the U.S. Army and the nation. He will be afforded access to West Point’s education and training programs to help him fully develop his potential. West Point requires cadets to exhibit determination, integrity, self-discipline strength of character, endurance and a willingness to work hard. Coyle will participate in a rigorous program of academics, military education and training, character development and athletics and is expected to perform effectively under those pressures.

Already familiar with West Point, he participated in the academy’s summer leaders experience program in 2015. His leadership skills have also served him well as a co-captain for Emmett O’Brien’s soccer and track teams. Coyle will graduate from Emmett O’Brien Tech’s Mechanical Drafting and Engineering Technology (MDET) trade program in June and credits his studies for the aspiration to become an aerospace engineer.

A member of the Sons of the American Legion and a volunteer for many veterans’ causes including delivering Thanksgiving meals to struggling military families, Coyle was named an “Everyday MVP” by News 8, last year.

“We are extremely proud of Sean and wish him much success,” says Dr. Nivea L. Torres, Superintendent of Schools, for the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System. “I believe he is well prepared for his journey with a wealth of knowledge, discipline and wonderful experiences from Emmett O’Brien that will pave the way for this next chapter,” she adds.

“Sean has been a role model to all of his peers. He has been motivated to succeed during his tenure at Emmett O’Brien and we wish him much success in all of his future endeavors,” says Laurie LeBouthillier, principal, Emmett O’Brien Technical High School.
