Jayden Harris, an Eli Whitney Technical High School student specializes in Plumbing, has already earned his OSHA certification to work on job sites. Through the Work-Based Learning program, he’s also working part-time as an apprentice plumber.

“You get all this hands-on experience for free without having to graduate and go to a trade school, spending money out of your own pocket,” Harris said. “You get certifications for free.”

Kasia Wlazlo, an Emmett O’Brien Technical High School graduate, now works full-time at Sikorsky machining aerospace parts. She got her start at the company thanks to an internship she landed during her senior year.

“Right after high school, you already have everything set for you if you do the program,” Wlazlo said. “It’s just a really great opportunity to work here.”

Liam Leffler, a W.F. Kaynor Technical High School senior, is studying Health Technology and has his sights set on the pre-medical track. Upon graduating, Leffler will have completed four college courses towards his degree. “Anything to help you prepare for a college education in healthcare,” said Leffler.

Already a certified EMT, Leffler’s hands-on work through Work-Based Learning has helped him figure out his passion.
