Employers across the manufacturing, construction, energy, and service industries continue to face a shortage of skilled workers. CTECS plays a critical role in addressing this need by providing the classroom instruction required for state-licensed trades and occupations.

CTECS is the state’s largest provider of apprenticeship related-instruction, serving approximately 1,500 residents each semester. These courses provide the instructional hours required for licensure through the Department of Consumer Protection and support both entry into and advancement within high-demand careers. To help workers complete training faster, CTECS is also piloting accelerated summer offerings.

In direct response to employer demand, CTECS has expanded Adult Apprenticeship programs statewide. New and enhanced offerings include manufacturing and welding programs in Bristol, Waterbury, and Norwich; a new small engine repair course supporting service and small business sectors; expanded trade licensure pathways in electrical, HVAC, and sheet metal across all seven CTECS apprenticeship locations; and additional hairdressing and barbering programs.

These programs are open to both registered apprentices and non-apprentice adult learners, ensuring broad access to licensure-aligned education that leads to well-paying careers. CTECS is exploring ways to expand non-apprentice training for new entrants to the workforce, career changers, or specific industry or employer-sponsored training to upgrade the skills of incumbent workers.
