Interim Superintendent Appointed to Lead the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System

September 30, 2021; Hartford, CT – Connecticut Education Commissioner Charlene M. Russell-Tucker and the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) Board announce the appointment of Dr. Ellen Solek as Interim Superintendent of CTECS, effective October 1, 2021.

“Dr. Solek is an experienced educator and administrator with an exceptional and diverse educational service record. Her 30 years of service in the field of education poises her to lead the statewide CTECS school system. The State Department of Education and State Board of Education look forward to working with her.” Commissioner of Education Charlene M. Russell-Tucker said.

“We are extremely pleased to have Dr. Solek join CTECS as Interim Superintendent,” said CTECS Board Chairmen Robert Trefry. “Her extensive experience in leading school districts, and enthusiasm for Career and Technical Education will surely continue to move CTECS towards achieving the district’s goals. More importantly, her demonstrated commitment to putting students first and providing them opportunities for growth will benefit the 11,000 students we serve.”

Dr. Solek brings with her a wealth of administrative experiences with nearly 30 years in a variety of educational roles. Most recently, Dr. Solek served as Superintendent of Bristol Public Schools where she was directly involved in the development and implementation of the district’s career partnership with business and industry in the city of Bristol, as well as a successful school-to-work career pathways program.  Prior to that, she was the Superintendent of East Haddam School District and a middle school Principal.

Dr. Solek holds a master’s degree and a doctoral degree in Educational Administration and Leadership from the University of Hartford.

“I am very honored to be designated as the interim Superintendent for CTECS and eagerly look forward to visiting all of the schools regularly, to the opportunities ahead to meet with the CTECS staff and students, and most important, to further the growth and the work of one of the finest technical education systems in the nation,” said Dr. Solek.
