The Graphics Technology program begins with instruction on trade-specific safety. Students will participate in production work related to marketing and branding for customers inside and outside the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System. They are introduced to the basic concepts of page layout and graphic design, various methods of print production and image development for new media. Students are introduced to the legal restrictions of the printing industry and laws of copyright and intellectual property. Students receive instruction and demonstrate skills in the printing and bindery process, while learning fundamentals of type, typesetting, page layout, proofreading, line photography, image assembly and substrates.

CTECS students receive 540 hours of instruction in the career/technical program each year.

In advanced grades students are instructed and demonstrate skills in intermediate typesetting, the design of multicolor documents, multicolor print production, equipment troubleshooting and preventive maintenance. To prepare students for the business side of the graphics industry, they receive instruction in job estimation, advanced typesetting, color theory and advanced graphic design.  Students reaching an acceptable level of proficiency are eligible for Work-based Learning (WBL).
